Lesson goal

1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶CSWA Sample Part ExerciseThe modeling techniques for the sample exam part.↗
Video 2▶CSWA Sample Assembly ExerciseInsert the components and add the mates of the sample assembly.↗
2. Key takeaways
The sample exam contains a part modeling section and an assembly modeling section.
The CSWA prep program covers sketching, basic features, mass properties, assemblies, reference geometry and drawings.
Read the supplied drawing in full before modeling: units, material and origin determine the result.
For the assembly, choose the fixed component and the required mates carefully: the final position depends on them.
Tip
Take the sample exam once while following the video, then a second time on your own with a timer: you will see where you lose time.
3. Do the exercise
Redo the CSWA sample exam without the video:
- model the part from the drawing
- apply the required material and note the mass
- build the assembly and note the required center of mass
