Interference detection, mate adjustment and component replacement.
Lesson goal
Repair an assembly with interferences and replace a component without losing its mates.

Prerequisite: Lesson 4
1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶CSWP - Adjusting Mates and Using Interference DetectionFind the interfering components, correct the mates and read the center of mass again. In French↗
Video 2▶CSWP - Replacing a ComponentReplace all instances of a part and reattach its mates. In French↗
2. Key takeaways
Interference detection lists the shared volumes between components: it shows where the assembly is wrong.
Correct the faulty mate rather than moving the part: the position must be defined by the mates.
Replace Components can handle all instances of a part at once.
After a replacement, check the mates to reattach: some references may be missing on the new part.
Tip
Run interference detection again after each correction: a repaired mate can shift another one.
3. Do the exercise
Take the hinge from lesson 4:
- create an interference by changing a distance mate
- find it with interference detection and correct the mate
- replace the pin with a longer variant and reattach the mates
