Prerequisite: Able to open a SOLIDWORKS assembly
1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

Video 2▶Introduction to DiggerZoom into a part, create a detail view and fade actors to see inside.↗
2. Key takeaways
An exploded view shows each component of the assembly: for an assembly, disassembly or repair manual.
Labels name each part directly on the exploded view.
In Composer, parts and subassemblies are called actors.
The Digger zooms into an area, creates a detail view and fades the actors that hide the inside, without hiding them one by one.
Tip
Use the Digger rather than hiding actors by hand: your view stays clean and you have nothing to show again afterwards.
3. Do the exercise
On an assembly of about ten parts imported into Composer:
- create a clear exploded view
- add a label to each part
- use the Digger to create a detail view of an internal component
