1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

An SMG file inserted into Word or a PDF can be viewed without the recipient having SOLIDWORKS Composer.

2

Different configurations can be presented in the published document.

3

Composer is not a CAD application: design changes are made in SOLIDWORKS.

4

The Update command reloads a modified actor or the whole modified assembly, without redoing the documentation.

Tip

Run the update in Composer as soon as a CAD revision is approved: you keep your views and animations, and the manual follows the revision.

3. Do the exercise

On the Composer file from the previous lessons:

  • modify a part in SOLIDWORKS and save it
  • update the matching actor in Composer
  • insert the SMG file into a Word document
✓To check: The modified part appears up to date in Composer, and the SMG file displays in the Word document.
