1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶Constant Radius Fillet OptionsKeep or remove features, overflow type and round corners.↗
Video 2▶Variable and Zero Radius FilletsVary the radius along an edge and make it converge to a point.↗
Video 3▶Setback FilletsCleaner blends at vertices where three or more edges meet.↗
Video 4▶Face FilletsA fillet defined by faces, useful on imported geometry, with curvature continuity.↗
2. Key takeaways
The overflow type controls how a fillet behaves when it is larger than the available space.
A variable radius is driven by values at vertices and control points; a zero radius makes the fillet converge to a point.
Setbacks spread the blend over the edges that meet at the vertex: the corner is smoother.
A face fillet is based on faces, not on an edge: it works even on an imported model with no history.
Tip
When a fillet fails, first try splitting it into several features in a different order before changing the type.
3. Do the exercise
On an 80 × 80 × 40 mm block:
- add a variable radius fillet from 5 to 15 mm on a vertical edge
- blend a corner where three edges meet using setback values
- replace a standard fillet with a curvature continuous face fillet
