1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

Utilities: Power SelectVideo 1▶Utilities: Power SelectSelect features in bulk by type and act on them in one go.↗ Utilities: Find, Modify, and Simplify FeaturesVideo 2▶Utilities: Find, Modify, and Simplify FeaturesFind features by criteria, modify them or create a simplified configuration.↗ Utilities: Feature PaintVideo 3▶Utilities: Feature PaintCopy the properties of one feature to others, in the same part or elsewhere.↗ Utilities: Find and Replace AnnotationVideo 4▶Utilities: Find and Replace AnnotationChange a text string in every annotation of a drawing.↗

2. Key takeaways

1

Power Select selects by type: all fillets, all holes, all faces of one color…

2

The Simplify tool suppresses small features in a dedicated configuration, useful before a simulation.

3

Feature Paint applies the parameters of a reference feature to other features of the same type.

4

Replacing text in annotations saves you from fixing a note by hand in every view.

Tip

Before a simulation, create a simplified configuration without fillets under 1 mm: the mesh will be lighter.

3. Do the exercise

On a part with many fillets:

  • select all fillets under 2 mm
  • create a simplified configuration where they are suppressed
  • match the radius of three fillets to a reference fillet with Feature Paint
✓To check: The simplified configuration no longer contains small fillets, and the original configuration is unchanged.
