1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

A route specification (route specification template) sets size, schedule, pipes and elbows: inserted components follow automatically.

2

The Routing Component Wizard turns a part into a routing component by defining its C-points (connection) and R-points (route).

3

A design table creates a fitting in several sizes; the component is then saved to the Design Library.

4

A P&ID file is a text file that describes lines, connections and equipment: you import it to place the equipment and guide the routes.

Tip

Create your in-house components from the manufacturer's files, then run them through the wizard: you keep the exact geometry and gain the connection points.

3. Do the exercise

Extend your library:

  • create a route specification for a pipe size you use often in your projects
  • turn an off-the-shelf fitting into a routing component with its C-points and R-points
  • use the specification and the new fitting in a test route
✓To check: The fitting drops onto a route and connects on its own, and the inserted pipes take the size from your specification.
