1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

Belt/Chain Assembly FeatureVideo 1▶Belt/Chain Assembly FeatureLink pulleys, idlers and sprockets so they rotate together, with an optional belt part.↗ SensorsVideo 2▶SensorsMonitor a model property and trigger an alert outside the limits.↗

2. Key takeaways

1

The Belt/Chain feature is built by selecting the pulley edges in the order of the path.

2

It can create a belt part whose length follows the position of the pulleys.

3

A sensor tracks a value (mass, dimension, interference…) and alerts you when it leaves the set range.

Tip

Add a sensor on the belt length: you will know immediately if a change in center distance takes it out of the standard range.

3. Do the exercise

In an assembly of two pulleys and an idler:

  • create a Belt/Chain feature with a belt part
  • add a dimension sensor on the center distance
  • set an alert when the center distance exceeds the maximum value you choose
✓To check: Rotate one pulley: the others follow. Exceed the maximum center distance: the alert appears.
