1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

Replace Components transfers its mates to the new component: check the mates flagged with errors.

2

A flexible subassembly keeps its internal motion in the top-level assembly.

3

Smart Fasteners fill Hole Wizard holes with the right Toolbox fasteners.

4

A Smart Component brings its fasteners and cuts with it each time it is inserted.

Tip

Create your holes with the Hole Wizard rather than with cuts: Smart Fasteners can then add the fasteners automatically.

3. Do the exercise

On an assembly with a cylinder:

  • make the cylinder subassembly flexible
  • replace a part with a variant while keeping the mates
  • add the fasteners with Smart Fasteners
✓To check: The cylinder rod moves in the top-level assembly, and all screws are mated.
