1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶CSWP - How to Approach Building the ModelDefine a modeling strategy and link dimensions to global variables. In French↗
Video 2▶CSWP - Building the Initial ModelBosses, cuts, holes, fillets, chamfers, material and mass properties. In French↗
Video 3▶CSWP - Updating ParametersChange dimensions and variables, then rebuild and check the part.In French↗
Video 4▶CSWP - Modifying the ModelDelete, add and edit features, then read the mass again. In French↗
2. Key takeaways
Before the first sketch, identify the dimensions that will change: these become global variables.
Link dimensions to variables with equations: a single value change updates the whole part.
After each change, rebuild and check that every feature has updated correctly.
Apply the right material before reading the mass properties: without it, the mass is meaningless.
Tip
Set the document units and number of decimals before you start: you will read the mass directly in the required format.
3. Do the exercise
Model a parametric plate:
- create three global variables A, B and C for length, width and thickness
- add a hole, a fillet and a chamfer linked to these variables
- apply a steel, note the mass, change A and note it again
