Lesson goal
Develop an existing part and its configurations without breaking parent-child relations.

1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶CSWP - Adding and Modifying ConfigurationsIdentify, create and modify the configurations of the sample part.In French↗
Video 2▶CSWP - Modifying Configurations using Sketch Profiles and a Design TableChange the suppression state of features and the dimensions specific to each configuration. In French↗
Video 3▶CSWP - Feature ModificationsChange the profile and end condition of a boss, reorder features. In French↗
Video 4▶CSWP - Sketch Profile Modifications and Feature ReorderingModify an extruded profile and reorder while respecting parent-child relations. In French↗
2. Key takeaways
A configuration can suppress a feature or change a dimension without affecting the other configurations: always check which one is active.
The design table gathers the values and suppression states of all configurations in one table.
Changing the end condition of a boss or its sketch profile modifies everything that depends on it: check the child features.
You cannot place a feature before its parent in the FeatureManager design tree: look at the relations before reordering.
Tip
Before changing a dimension, check whether the dialog box offers to apply it to this configuration or to all of them: this is a frequent source of errors.
3. Do the exercise
Take the parametric plate from lesson 2:
- create two configurations, one without the hole, the other thicker
- drive them with a design table
- reorder the fillet before the chamfer if the relations allow it
