1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

In an assembly, a configuration can suppress components or call another configuration of a part.

2

The advanced options decide whether new components and mates are suppressed in the other configurations.

3

A design table is an Excel sheet: one row per configuration, one column per parameter.

4

Excel data validation limits the values entered and prevents impossible configurations.

Tip

Rename the driven dimensions before creating the design table: the column headers become readable for the whole team.

3. Do the exercise

Open the part from lesson 1:

  • create a design table with five sizes
  • add a suppression column for a feature
  • insert the part into an assembly and create two configurations that call different sizes
✓To check: Add a row to the table: the new configuration appears in the ConfigurationManager.
