1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

Set the drawing options (snaps, ortho mode) before you start: every line lands in the right place the first time.

2

Pattern and Mirror save you from redrawing repeated elements: draw one motif, then duplicate it.

3

Stretch changes a length without redrawing: select the part to move with a crossing window.

4

Power Trim removes line segments when you drag the mouse across them.

Tip

Draw symmetrical elements by halves, then apply Mirror last: only one half to correct if something changes.

3. Do the exercise

Draw the front view of a flange:

  • an outer circle of Ø 120 mm and a bore of Ø 50 mm
  • six Ø 10 mm holes in a circular pattern
  • 3 mm fillets on the corners of a mounting lug
✓To check: The six holes are evenly spaced and stretching the lug leaves no orphan lines.
