1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶Populating Electrical DrawingsAdd components and symbols, assign manufacturer parts and import from a spreadsheet.↗
Video 2▶Connecting Electrical SymbolsDraw single or multiple wires, manage wire styles and numbering.↗
Video 3▶Using Miscellaneous Design Tools in ElectricalCables and conductors, macros, cross-references between sheets and black boxes.↗
2. Key takeaways
Each symbol is assigned a manufacturer part: this is what feeds the bill of materials.
Components are added one by one or imported from a spreadsheet when the list is long.
The Wire Style Manager defines the project's wires; numbering can be redone selectively.
Macros reuse a piece of circuit; black boxes represent a specific component with its logical connections.
Tip
Turn any circuit you redraw from one project to the next (motor feeder, 24 V supply) into a macro: you save time from the second project on.
3. Do the exercise
Draw a simple motor feeder:
- insert a circuit breaker, a contactor and a motor with their manufacturer parts
- connect them with wires and run the numbering
- save the circuit as a macro and insert it again on another sheet
