1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

A route starts when you drag and drop a routing component into the assembly: SOLIDWORKS creates the route subassembly.

2

Auto-routing connects the segment endpoints; Edit Wires adds the wires and their electrical attributes.

3

Clips force the harness path; you position and orient them with the keyboard while routing.

4

The From-To List is an Excel file that describes each wire and its connections; it relies on the component and cable libraries.

Tip

Place the clips before routing: auto-routing goes through them and the harness follows the machine's real path from the start.

3. Do the exercise

In an assembly with two connectors and a frame:

  • place three clips along the planned path
  • start the route by dragging and dropping the first connector
  • auto-route through the clips, then add two wires with Edit Wires
✓To check: The harness goes through all three clips and follows them when you move one.
