1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

Video 3▶Working with Imported File TypesImport 2D PDFs or 2D and 3D CAD files, add files and organize the project.↗

2. Key takeaways
SOLIDWORKS Inspection is available as an add-in in SOLIDWORKS and as a standalone application: choose based on the type of file you receive.
The standalone application accepts 2D PDFs and CAD files: useful for inspecting a part drawn by a customer or an old drawing.
The project properties (part number, revision, customer) feed the final report: fill them in from the start.
A project can group several files: drawing, BOM or additional sheets stay in the same inspection package.
Tip
Prepare a project template with your usual properties (customer, order number, inspector): every new project starts already filled in.
3. Do the exercise
With a PDF drawing of a mechanical part from your design office:
- create a new project in the standalone application
- fill in the part number, the revision and the customer name
- import a second sheet and move between the two
