1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

The Auto Dimension Scheme first asks for the part type: Prismatic or Turned.

2

It applies either plus and minus tolerances or geometric tolerances.

3

Several configurations let you separate sets of PMI; the Copy Scheme tool transfers them from one configuration to another.

4

DimXpert annotations can be imported into a 2D drawing if a drawing is still needed.

Tip

Always review the result of the automatic scheme: it proposes complete dimensioning, but it is up to you to check that it matches the part's function.

3. Do the exercise

On a turned part (stepped shaft):

  • run the Auto Dimension Scheme with the Turned part type
  • apply geometric tolerances
  • copy the scheme to a second configuration and change one tolerance
✓To check: Each configuration shows its own set of PMI, and the change appears only in the second one.
