Prerequisite: Lessons 1 to 4

1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

Sheet Formats and TemplatesVideo 1▶Sheet Formats and TemplatesCreate a sheet format with a title block and a drawing template.↗ General Tables and Hole TablesVideo 2▶General Tables and Hole TablesDisplay data in tables: holes, configurations, free-form information.↗ Drawings: Performance and Display IssuesVideo 3▶Drawings: Performance and Display IssuesLightweight models, Large Assembly Mode, detached drawings: open and edit faster.↗

2. Key takeaways

1

The sheet format carries the border and title block; the drawing template carries the options (standards, units, layers). Both are shared in a common folder.

2

Title block fields are linked to model and drawing properties: the title block fills itself in.

3

A hole table replaces dozens of dimensions on a drilled plate.

4

On a large assembly, open the drawing with lightweight models or in Detailing mode to save time.

Tip

Store your templates and sheet formats in a shared folder declared in the SOLIDWORKS options (File Locations): the whole team produces identical drawings.

3. Do the exercise

Prepare your company standard:

  • create an A3 sheet format with your title block
  • link the Description, Material and Drawn By fields to properties
  • save a drawing template that uses it
✓To check: A new drawing created with this template shows a title block that is already filled in.
