Prerequisite: Lessons 1 to 3
1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶Assembly Drawing ViewsBroken-out sections, alternate position views and exploded views specific to assemblies.↗
Video 2▶Bill of MaterialsInsert and edit a BOM, and create your own table templates. In French↗
Video 3▶Balloons in a DrawingSingle, automatic and stacked balloons linked to the BOM.↗
Video 4▶Custom Properties in BOM TablesFill BOM columns with part properties (supplier, material, part number).↗
Video 5▶Equations in a Bill of Materials TableCalculate totals or conditions in the BOM (IF, SUM, COUNT…).↗
2. Key takeaways
The assembly exploded view is reused as is on the drawing, with its explode lines.
The BOM is filled from the custom properties of the parts: enter them once in the templates.
Auto Balloons use the BOM item numbers and stay synchronized.
A saved BOM template keeps your columns and formatting for all drawings.
Tip
If your BOM columns stay empty, it is almost always a misnamed property in the part: the name must be identical, accents included.
3. Do the exercise
From a small assembly:
- create a drawing with an exploded view
- insert a BOM with the columns Part Number, Description, Material, Quantity
- add Auto Balloons
