1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

Adding Piping Components In-LineVideo 1▶Adding Piping Components In-LineInsert a reducing tee into an existing route, orient it with the keyboard or the triad and connect the new branch.↗ Split Route: Angled Lines and TeesVideo 2▶Split Route: Angled Lines and TeesAdd a split point on a route and use it to orient an in-line fitting.↗ Editing Route GeometryVideo 3▶Editing Route GeometryDelete, adjust and add 3D sketch geometry, replace fittings.↗

2. Key takeaways

1

An in-line fitting (tee, valve) is dropped onto an existing pipe, then oriented with keyboard shortcuts or the triad.

2

Split Route creates a split point where a new branch can start.

3

The route remains a 3D sketch: you modify it by deleting, adjusting or adding lines.

4

A fitting can be deleted and replaced by another one without recreating the route.

Tip

After adding a tee, run Auto Route again to connect the new branch: that is the method shown in the video and the quickest.

3. Do the exercise

Go back to the route from lesson 2:

  • insert an in-line tee and orient its outlet upwards
  • connect the tee outlet to a third piece of equipment
  • replace an existing elbow with another model from the library
✓To check: The network rebuilds without errors and the BOM of the route subassembly lists the tee and the new elbow.
