1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

For an internal flow, the fluid volume must be closed: each opening gets a lid.

2

Lids are created by hand (extrusion on the opening face) or with the Lid Creation tool.

3

The Check Geometry tool tells you whether the model is watertight and calculates the fluid volume.

4

If the model leaks, Leak Tracking helps you find the spot that is not properly closed.

Tip

Put the lids in a configuration dedicated to the analysis: your manufacturing configuration stays clean and the drawing is not affected.

3. Do the exercise

On a valve body or a housing with several openings:

  • create a lid on each opening with the Lid Creation tool
  • run Check Geometry
  • delete one lid on purpose and use Leak Tracking to find it
✓To check: With all lids in place, Check Geometry succeeds and shows a non-zero fluid volume.
