1. Watch the videos

Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.

2. Key takeaways

1

Place cosmetic fillets at the end of the tree: they slow down rebuilds and make selections harder.

2

The Hole Wizard creates a standard hole (tapped, counterbored, countersunk); several holes can fit in a single feature.

3

Draft Analysis colors faces according to their angle: it shows the ones that will prevent the part from ejecting from the mold.

4

The order draft, shell, fillets gives walls of constant thickness; reversing the order changes the result.

Tip

When a shell fails, temporarily suppress the small fillets: the shell often succeeds, and you can then restore them.

3. Do the exercise

Model a 100 × 60 × 40 mm plastic housing:

  • add 2° of draft on the side faces
  • shell it to 2 mm, removing the top face
  • add a central rib and four screw holes with the Hole Wizard
✓To check: Draft Analysis shows no red face on the side walls.
