1. Watch the videos
Dassault Systèmes videos hosted on MySolidWorks: they open in a new tab and a free account is enough. Watch them in order.
Video 1▶Adding Balloons and Editing Balloon PropertiesColor, text size, shape, prefix and suffix, at document or template level.↗
Video 2▶Balloon Sequencing and OrderReorder characteristics, define sequences and force a balloon number.↗
2. Key takeaways
One balloon color or shape per classification (key, standard, note) lets you see at a glance what matters.
Set the balloon appearance in the template rather than project by project: all the company's reports look the same.
Sequences number by zone or by type: for example 1 to 99 for dimensions, 100 and up for notes.
A number forced by hand breaks the automatic logic: keep it for cases where the customer requires its own numbering.
Tip
Number in the reading direction of the drawing, left to right and top to bottom: the inspector finds each balloon without searching.
3. Do the exercise
On the project from lesson 2:
- give key characteristics a distinct color
- add a prefix to notes to distinguish them from dimensions
- renumber the balloons in the reading direction of the drawing
